June 8: At State Opens, the Stratford boys earned one point as Jean-Baptiste's 43'0" in triple jump held up through the finals for 8th place. He jumped 20'9" in long jump to finish 11th, while Dudley LaPorte and Shad Jamison finished 14th and 17th in a field of 25 shot putters.
June 1: The Stratford boys track team had a fantastic showing at the state meet. With very few qualifiers, the team finished in 9th place with 28 points. Stebenson Jean-Baptiste had PRs in the long jump and triple jump, needing both to get 2nd and 3rd place. Dudley LaPorte and Shadd Jamison both threw over 3 feet further than last week to take 2nd and 3rd in the shot put. In the triple jump, Corey Gaddis finished 14th, but had a PR of over a foot with his 40'4" leap.
May 25: At last night's SWC boys championships, Stebenson Jean-Baptiste defended his triple jump title while also adding the long jump title, coming from behind on his final attempt. Corey Gaddis finished third in the triple jump, an event he had not qualified for until last week.
In the shot put, Shad Jamison and Dudley LaPorte finished 4th and 5th, and will compete at states next week.
May 18: The regular season is over with for Stratford track, with several athletes qualifying in the season's final meet for the SWC Championships next Monday and Tuesday. For the boys, Shad Jamison in the shot and multiple qualifiers in triple jump and hurdles lead the way, while the girls bring a small but talented team that might be without leading scorer Krystina Lucia.
May 11: The seasons are in full swing for both the boys and girls outdoor track teams. On Tuesday, although the boys dropped competitive meets to 12-4 Law and 12-0 Pomperaug, the meet was highlighted by fine individual performances in by Shad Jamison (shot put winner at 44'5") and Rob Ross (personal best 9'6" in pole vault). Stebenson Jean-Baptiste also won the triple jump at 38'8".
Last Friday at the Shelton Invitational, Jamison broke the meet record in the shot put, only to see teammate Dudley LaPorte beat that record later on. Both record holders have qualified for SWCs and states in the shot put. Full results if I can locate them.

February 14: Stratford competed at the Class M state championships. The girls gained six points on the strength of Krystina Lucia's team-record long jump (4th place) and Randi James' 5th in shot put. Lucia also tied Sarah Mitchell's 55m dash record. For the boys, they only gained points in shot put (Shad Jamison), but had a number of strong performances, particularly by senior Matt Melhouse, who broke his own 600m record and ran the 3rd fastest 300m in team history.
February 7: At the SWC championships Saturday, Weston captured the boys championships. On the girls side, Masuk defended its title. Stratford finished tied for 7th on the girls side and 8th for the boys, but those reflect the lack of depth of SHS rather than its quality.
For the girls, Krystina Lucia (50m) and Randi James (shot) each won events, with SHS taking 3 of the top 4 spots in shot put. For the boys, while not having defending champion Dudley LaPorte, their dominance of shot put continued with Shad Jamison winning in a personal-best 45'3", and Tim Kaiser gaining 3rd. Stratford has now had six consecutive years with a top 3 shot putter, and has won the event three of the past five years. Senior Matt Melhouse, normally a distance runner, gained two medals in the 600m and 50m.
January 24: Stratford competed at another developmental last week, with strong results all around. Matt Melhouse unofficially broke the 600m record set by Nick Ferraro last year.
January 22: Today marks 1,000 days of this website!!! I haven't really done anything to commemorate the anniversary, other than to say that I hope it continues to have many more days of coverage and continues to reach and interest people. I guess this is the closest thing to a site history.

The Stratford boys look to continue a recent string of strong SWC finishes (1st, 3rd, 3rd) despite losing All-SWC selections Andre Keuck and Alex Ivanov. Meanwhile the girls team, coming off their best team finish ever, looks to overcome the losses of Sarah Mitchell, Melisa Lucia and the core of their distance team.
