1995 Season in Review
The Greatest Track Team Stratford High Has Ever Seen.
Period.
After capturing the final CCIAC title as a warmup (and breaking Jonathan Law's seven-year run on the title), the Red Devils marched into the Class M championships and won going away, gaining 64 points. Although they only won one event (Kevin Krankall in the high jump), they captured  five 2nd place finishes and one 3rd to contribute 56 points in just seven events.
Several records were set by this team, starting with the 4x100 team, which ran a 44.59 at Class M's to finish 2nd. From 1999-2001, there was not a single 4x100 run that came within a second of that mark. Julian Dunlap also set the individual 100m mark with a blazing 10.81. Kevin Krankall set his fair share of records, running the steeplechase in 10:27.6 and settting the high jump record (raised to 6'6" the following year).
The team was well-rounded however, as Adam Malloy set the team record in the 800m, running a 2:02.09 at Class M, while Kenrick Ricketts, while not setting a record, made a rare serious challenge at the 1968 discus record. Ricketts threw nearly 144 feet.
Although the team faltered at the State Opens, their legacy had already been estalished. Since this team, no SHS team has won a state championship, and only one (1999 Wrestling) has even been a runner-up. The team also set a tradition of success for future SHS track teams. In the years since the Class M victory, there has been an All-State track athlete every single year.
